Why some people don't stress over their daily lives & stay organised?
While some people seem rushing & overthinking what to do next?
Which one are you?
If you're one whose day starts in a hurry & ends with you hoping that you'll handle it better tomorrow, then you're in trouble.
This problem stems from lack of clarity & ends with wasting your precious time in meaningless activities.
So, how to simplify your life?
The answer is in setting systems.
What is a system?
I define a system as stepping stones or actions that lead to a change in life.
We can call them habits as well but linked to a goal in mind. We'll not focus on setting goals, it's a topic for some other day.
But why & how do systems simplify your life?
• They give you more control. Setting systems help you control the input before expecting a certain output. They let you focus on what you can control, not what you cannot.
• They help you progress relentlessly. With systems you can track your progress towards your goals & see which area of your life requires more attention.
• They are flexible. You can change your systems as per your needs. Either your energy levels fall or something uncertain happens, you have the power to change it.
Now let's look at the most effective way to set systems?
How to set systems (the best way)?
See, setting systems that we can follow & sustain for the long term comes down to make them as specific as possible.
We will specify 3 elements of a system so we have absolute clarity over what we have to execute.
What - Define exactly what is the action you want to execute. Quantify it, the more clear, the better. Example - I will write 500 words every day.
Why - Why are you doing this? Why does it matter? Go layers deep. People tend to forget this but if you don't have clarity over your purpose, you'll flounder many times. Example - I want to write daily as I want to improve my skills and monetize them. It matters as I want to support my family & build my personal branding.
When & Where - Schedule it in your day & decide the place, otherwise you'll be forgetting it. Example - I'll write 500 words daily at 9:00 P. M on my work desk.
You now have the correct knowledge to simplify your life, but before you leave, here are some little additional tips.
Design a distraction free environment.
Don't set too many systems. I recommend 3-5 at a time.
Don't skip two days in a row otherwise you'll lose the momentum.
Bundle systems with something you already enjoy.
Meet you next week, Mayank.
Consider adding a "How" to the system?
A general idea of how you'll go about the task, so you can slip straight into it rather than spending time worrying about how to begin when the time comes?
That's a great idea! This makes the system even more specific.
